How a young hobbit begins his day.

[An excerpt from the diary of Tolman Gamgee, aged 23]

For breakfast this morning: three poached eggs, five strips of bacon wrapped around bits of Brandywine cheese, four pieces of toast with butter and strawberry jam, one blackberry scone with clotted cream and a glass of milk.

For second breakfast, I had one grilled trout caught by my brother Hamfast, a plateful of mushrooms cooked lightly with melted butter and seasoned with salt and pepper, two cold chicken drumsticks from the pantry, roasted asparagus with red potatoes, a half-pint of beer, three strawberry tarts.

The gaffer says there's nothing better than a full stomach on a sunny morning. I think he's right.
