PEARLS ARE NOT GOOD TO EAT
by Tari Gwaemir
A domestic moment.
"Those are gems, not sweets, my dear," Laurence told the dragon, who was flicking a curious tongue over a long strand of pearls.
"I know," Temeraire replied, lifting his head with dignity. "I wanted to...well, I only thought--" He lifted the necklace with a delicate swipe of his claw and gave it a longing look.
"What is it, Temeraire?" Laurence prompted.
"They smelled a little like the sea." Temeraire dropped the pearls delicately back into the jewelry box and sat back on his haunches.
"Perhaps they do, my dear," Laurence replied and silently made a note of the jewelers' name. A bracelet of large pearls...with ocean-blue sapphires...yes, that would do nicely for Temeraire indeed.
