Frequently Asked Questions
- When and where is the wedding?
We will celebrate our wedding on Saturday, 2014 May 10 in downtown Chicago. In the morning, we will have a Catholic wedding Mass at Holy Name Cathedral, starting at 11:00. All guests should be seated by 10:45, so please arrive a little early. The Mass will run approximately one hour. Following the ceremony, we will be taking group photographs outside before dispersing for lunch.
In the evening, we will continue our celebration with plenty of good food and drink at the nearby Farmhouse restaurant. Starting at 19:00, there will be a cocktail hour on the upper floor, during which appetizers will be served. You may arrive at any time. Dinner will begin at 20:00. We have reserved the restaurant until closing time at 23:00.
- When is the RSVP deadline?
Please respond by 2014 April 15 to help us finalize the wedding plans. Thanks!
- Are partners and children welcome?
Yes! Partners, children, and other loved ones are welcome. Please let us know how many adults and children will be attending on the RSVP form. Both the religious ceremony and the dinner party will be child-friendly.
- Am I expected to attend both the ceremony and the reception?
Many of our friends are not Catholic. As the traditional Nuptial Mass is lengthy and might be a little daunting to newcomers, you are welcome to skip church in the morning and come celebrate with us in the evening.
Similarly, if you wish to attend the Mass with us but can't attend the dinner later, that's fine with us too!
- What should I do during the afternoon between the ceremony and the reception?
Explore Chicago! The Near North Side neighborhood where the wedding and reception will take place is walkable and well-connected by public transit to the rest of the City of Chicago. We will be providing a list of our favorite local restaurants and sights in the wedding program.
- Where should I make hotel reservations?
We have obtained a room block at the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile (map), where you can take advantage of a discounted group rate for May 9-11. You have the option of a room with either one king bed or two queen beds, at a rate of $159 per night for two people. (With each additional occupant, the rate increases by $20.)
You can make a reservation online or call the hotel at 888-591-1234 (please mention "Lee/Kim Wedding" as the event). Reservations must be made no later than April 9 for the discounted group rate to be effective.
If you would like to split a room with other wedding guests, please check the option on the RSVP form, and we will put you in touch with people who are looking for roommates.
If you would like to check in before May 9 or check out after May 11, please contact us, and we will see what we can do to arrange your reservation with the hotel. (Please let us know as soon as possible if you anticipate being in this situation, as the hotel does not guarantee room rates and availability outside the room block dates.)
If you would like to stay at a different hotel, there are many other options available in the area. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need help finding accommodations.
- How do I get to downtown Chicago from the airport?
The two major Chicago airports are served by public transit to the city center. From O'Hare International Airport (ORD), you can board the CTA Blue Line at O'Hare station and ride an inbound train to downtown Chicago ("the Loop"). The Blue Line runs 24 hours a day, every day. From Midway International Airport (MDW), you can board the CTA Orange Line at Midway station and ride an inbound train to the Loop. Tickets can be purchased at the stations.
- Do you have a gift registry?
Because many of you will be traveling quite a distance to be with us, your presence at our wedding is gift enough! Please don't feel obliged to give us anything more. If you really do want to give us something else, envelopes of money are customary gifts at Korean weddings. We will be observing this tradition instead of a registry.
- Can I bring crafts / board games / video games / musical instruments / etc. to the reception?
Yes, please do! There will be no dancing at the reception; instead, the focus will be on good food and good company. We would like our friends to have a chance to socialize and get to know one another in a comfortable, relaxed setting.
- Is there a dress code for the wedding?
There is no official dress code for the ceremony or the reception. For the ceremony, we only ask that you dress appropriately for the church setting (e.g. no low-cut necklines, no shorts, etc.). For the reception, feel free to dress however you wish!
- Why doesn't the link in my email invitation work? / I received multiple invitations. Which one should I use?
Sorry for the error! We had to regenerate all RSVP links after a database corruption. If you request a new invitation, you ought to receive an email that contains an updated, working link. If you still have trouble after trying this step, please email one of us for help: email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org.
- I have a question that is not answered in the FAQ. / I would like to report a bug in the website. How do I contact you?
